I will play in World Cup final, says Muralitharan...

Muralitharan

Describing it as the most important match of his life, Sri Lankan off-spin wizardMuttiah Muralitharan said he will definitely play the World Cup final against India.

Speculation has been rife since Thursday that Muralitharan, who has hamstring, knee, groin and side injuries, may not be able to make it to the final eleven for the summit clash at the Wankhede stadium on Saturday.

But a defiant Muralitharan tweeted on Friday that come what may, he will play in the final.

Muralitharan skipped practice on Thursday but Sri Lanka coach Trevor Bayliss said that the spinner is unlikely to be denied the chance to face India in what will be his last international match.

All-rounder Angelo Mathews sustained a quadriceps muscle injury while fielding in the semifinal win over New Zealand, and had to bat with a runner. Chaminda Vaas and Suraj Randiv have joined the Sri Lanka squad on standby in case either of the injured players has to drop out.
